Gifts for the Kiddos - Home to Three Duncan Boys Style

I'm so happy to welcome Lakeitha from the blog, Home to Three Duncan Boys, to join us for the Cottage and Vine Gift Giving Series.  Just so you know, whenever I cross paths with a "boy" mom, I feel an instant connection.  Boy moms, you know what I mean.  When I first came across Lakeitha's blog, she was well into a bedroom makeover for her son.   I love to watch her work on a project and she is always so sweet to share the details and thoughts that go into each one.  It made perfect sense that she would know just what to get the kiddos this holiday season.  Lakeitha, thank you for coming today!

Hi everyone! I’m Lakeitha from Home to three Duncan Boys and I’m here because Rene asked me to talk about gift giving for kids!

Christmas is by far my favorite time of the year.  I really love to receive gifts, but I’m known for being a very good gift giver!  With three boys of my own and 9 nephews, I’m always on the look out for what they are currently liking while making sure I’m shopping within my budget.  But this year, I thought about giving them all time.  I mean seriously, what do kids REALLY want from us?  My answer to that is time.  No matter what I’m doing, I always have a little one tugging at my shirt wanting to do something.  With that in mind, I’m focusing on finding gifts that would bring back “Family Time” and “Family Night”!

Here is what I’m currently liking.

Let’s play dress up!
Aprons! What better time is it than now to teach your daughter how to make that simple dish that your mom or grandmother taught you?  What about cupcakes for the class or their own birthday cake?  The icing on the cake would be the two of you wearing matching aprons like these found at Anthropologie!

If you build it they will come!

Let’s build something together! Isn’t that Lowes' phrase on their commercials?  Well, let’s take that literally! I found these little kits on Lowes website for some great prices.   I don’t know a little boy (or girl) that wouldn’t love building their own bird house.  While in the store, I saw kits on clearance that you could build tool boxes with and more! How about that for father/son time?  Or everyone time?!!!

Board games rock!
Let’s bring back game night! Yes the good old board games! Monopoly Jr. is perfect for younger kids and parents.  And who didn’t love Twister growing up?  That game is one big ball of fun! I would even consider giving this to teenagers.  I bet a magazine subscription that they would play it with you!

Oh, and UNO…Well it’s UNO! I still play UNO!

Four is better than one!

Okay guys stay with me.  I’m not totally out of the loop! What’s on our Christmas list this year?  The Nintendo Wii!!!

I played this game over at my sister’s house and let me just say, if you don’t have it, get it! It’s fun for EVERYONE! If you’re 4 or 104, you’ll fall in love with this game system!  And let’s just add points for the fact that you must get up out your seat and move when playing this game!

To sum up my ideas for gifts this year, let’s not just hand kids toys to go off by themselves and play.  Let’s be more hands on.  After all, don’t we want to create memories instead of clutter?

What are some of your gifts ideas this year?

Lakeitha, you hit the nail on the head.  As much as kids can get the "gimmes" this time of the year, our time is the best gift of all.  With those classic games, you can't possibly go wrong.  Thanks so much for sharing your time with us!!  Be sure to visit Lakeitha's blog, Home to Three Duncan Boys.
