I have been busy with design consultations and wanted to share one with you that I recently wrapped up. This was extra fun for me because it belongs to an eight year old boy. The family already has three boys and a baby girl is on the way. So now they are in the middle of a big room shuffle so to speak.
Overall, the style is traditional with pops of bright/bold color. A couple of things my client requested were to keep the existing wall color which is in the brown family, similar to BM maple shadows. Also staying in the room are the bed, wooden crates, and the red bench at the foot of the bed. Also, space is limited so she was looking for space saving tips. My recommendation was to forgo the usual chest of drawers/dresser and instead go with a pair of bedside chests.
Several crates were already in the room and my client and I agreed that these would be great stacked and treated like bookshelves. Nathaniel is also into his bicycle and they had a large decal of a BMX bike they wanted to use in the room. While themes are not my first choice, it is always nice for a child to be surrounded by things he enjoys. I believe this was achieved through the decal and another poster giving a nod to bikes.
The next project for this family is the baby girl nursery. I will share details with you on that a little later.
