In order to fully appreciate the final room, I suppose we should take a walk down memory lane.
This is what I started with. I changed the wall color, re-positioned & painted the bed, added new bedding and art.
Here is the new room. Before I go on, there are a few details that should be mentioned. We still need to add shoe moulding - so please overlook that. Also, after I took about 30 pictures, I realized that the antlers are a little off center. Oops!
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. And I think that T likes it too. The photos above the bed were taken with his I-phone on some of our many hikes in the desert and mountains. They were the first thing he noticed when he saw the finished room. I think that was a good thing.
If you recall, the bed was in the original cherry finish which was badly worn. My friend Melissa of Stuff: Vintage came through and shared her professional painters with me. Love the glossy black finish! By the way, I decided to add a tiny bit of trim to the shades.
There really isn't much room for a bedside table which is fine because we only needed something large enough to hold a retainer case and phone/alarm clock. So this little industrial stool did the trick.
T wanted lots of art on the walls and wanted me to include military mentions if possible.
We had an old painting of a late family member who was once a pilot and I thought this would be a nice addition to the room. The needlepoint pillow is one of the many needlepoint pieces made by Mom. She made this one especially for T when he was a tiny little thing because he loved squirrels. Many of you have asked about the slip covered wingback chair. You can read about it here.
I found this bowl at World Market thinking it would be a nice catchall for wallet & keys - in theory.
I left the hook in between the windows to hang the swimming medals.
I added the numbers to the chest a long time ago and decided to leave it as is for now.
I brought in a brass tray for a few of the personal items he likes to keep in his room. Everything looks better on a tray right? The owl holds treasures from some of our hikes.
Thanks so much for following along and thanks to all of you who have commented on the project! It was a fun journey and I really appreciate your support! Now let's visit the others and see those pretty rooms!
