Well here we are on week three of the One Room Challenge. If you are new, go here for previous posts. As promised yesterday, I do have some progress to show you and lots of pictures. Prepare for a stream of consciousness post...
You saw our plain jane built-ins before in this embarrassing picture. I suspect they were built in 1938 along with the rest of the house. If I were building them now, I would have fewer shelves allowing more space in between for taller items and the shelves would be deeper, but alas it is what it is. One thing I have always wanted to do is give them a more custom look.
In walks trim moulding to the rescue! The piece on the left will be used to finish the edge border on the surface and the piece on the right will be used to make boxes to create a paneled look.
Here is Mr. holding the piece and marking the cut (because this was one of those "we meaning you, honey" projects ;)).
The edge is perfectly mitered and the gaps will be filled with wood fill and everything will get a fresh coat of paint.
Bam! Here is our grown up built-in. Honestly, even before being painted, this little upgrade made me so happy!
Okay, so here is a larger shot of the room. I mentioned last week that the backs of the built-ins might have to change. I liked them for a while, but they just aren't working with my serene plan. The contrast is just too much. By the way, I painted the bedroom Worldly Gray and it made all the difference. Now I want the shelf backs to be white...again. It's just paint.
Here is the new bedding from My Habit which I love! It is super soft and I'm glad I went with the blue option. The quilt is this one from Target which I cannot say enough good things about. The pillows have grown on me, but they aren't staying. More on that in another post.
The original plan was to leave a dresser on this wall, but we decided to switch the dresser and chest of drawers and now the TV is much easier to see (trying to catch up on Downton Abbey and Breaking Bad). I think this all looks a little lonely. Do I move the TV to one side and prop a picture beside it? I think the wall space is too high for the gallery wall in the original plan. Talk to me.
One last thing...I dropped off the window seat cushion to be recovered yesterday. I'm using this linen for the seat cushion and Euro shams. Here's to progress!
Now let's see what the others are up to...
