Antiques Repurposed

I've always been a fan of including a variety of finishes and textures when it comes to interior design. I believe that items that are collected over time (and not purchased all at HomeGoods) is much more interesting.  I should probably also mention that I love HomesGoods as much as the next girl. When it comes to layering in pieces to tell your home's story, I really like the idea of incorporating an antique or two.  One great way to do this is to put the antique to work for you in a way that wasn't necessarily its original purpose - in other words, re-purpose it.

This antique display cabinet is the perfect addition to this bathroom!  I love the contrast it adds to the marbled surfaces and the warmth of the wood helps to balance out the cool tones of the room all while providing beautiful storage.

I realize wood tones in the kitchen aren't for everyone, but how pretty is this?  The white apron sink and painted cabinets helps to keep it fresh and current.

How about this idea - use and old barrister bookcase for shoe storage.  They actually built it into the wall, but it would be just as effective if left free standing.

We've all seen this idea and I've always wanted to try it.  Treat the surface of the dresser with a marine grade finish to protect from water.

I love how this antique armoire was incorporated into the wall of built-ins.  The warm wood tone breaks up the what would otherwise be a wall of putty.
