Weathered wood has been trending for quite a while now and I believe it might be here to stay (at least in small amounts). I really like the way different wood finishes can round out a space making it more interesting and less predictable and packaged.
The black table below was a gift from my aunt who snagged it at a yard sale. I painted it black at the time, but it began to feel too heavy in the room. I wanted something lighter, but white seemed too stark. So I decided to try a weathered finish.
Once this project was underway I remembered why I never refinish furniture. It takes forever! Citristrip spray is what I used to remove the layers of paint and old varnish from the table. It worked instantly and didn't smell awful like some furniture strippers.
After
Once this mixture dried the table was sealed with a couple of coats of satin poly. I like how some of the old finish still shows. Part of that is because I was sick of sanding and was ready to be finished with this project!
